Introduction: Train your entire staff on the importance of fire safety with this comprehensive training program. This set of two CD-ROMs is an interactive training program developed and reviewed by experts in gerontology, nursing, medicine, fire safety, fire protection engineering, health care administration, developmental disabilities, and instructional design. The modules were field tested with 1,400 LTC staff around the country. They are not just text files: they have interactive screens with narration, graphics, and video. This training program runs entirely off the CD-ROM. It is not necessary to copy or install any files to your hard drive.
 
Objectives: This 2 CD-ROM set includes five training modules:
  • The Need for Fire Safety;
  • Fire Behavior;
  • Human Factors in Fire Safety;
  • Fire Emergency Planning;
  • Fire Hazards; and
  • Fire Safety Devices

Course Authors: This course was adapted from Fire Safety for the Elderly, a video/print training program written by Bonnie L. Walker, PhD. The original curriculum was developed by an interdisciplinary team of experts including: John Bryan, Ed D, Chairperson of the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland; Harry Bradley, BS, PE, a Maryland fire marshal who serves on the board and care committee for the National Fire Protection Association; Harold D. Hicks, BS, PE, Atlantic Code Consultants; Susan Shemanski Harrington, MS, PE, Fire Protection Engineer, US General Services Administration; Terezie Bohrer, RN, MSW, Director of Disability Support Services; Marjorie Owens, MSW, Maryland Department of Human Resources; Darolyn Thomas, BS, Melwood Vocational Training; Edward Ansello, PhD, Virginia Center on Aging; Sandra Fitzler, Hillhaven Corporation; J. Michael Thompson, BS, PE, Gage-Babcock Associates; Jean Zink, BS, Center on Aging, University of Maryland; Mayer Zimmerman, MS, Health Care Financing Administration; Terry G.
