Introduction: This training program is part of a five module series that takes you step by step through the development of an emergency operations plan. It includes video interviews where staff who experienced real disasters talk about lessons learned. Objectives: At the end of this course, you will be able to: - Develop criteria for making the decision: shelter-in-place or evacuate;
- Identify types of emergency supplies for sheltering-in-place and how/where to store them;
- Describe strategies for handling utility losses, staff shortages, protecting important documents, and facility shutdown;
- Develop a detailed evacuation guide;
- Identify how to choose a temporary meeting place and long-term evacuation sites;
- Identify strategies for tracking residents in an evacuation;
- Identify supplies, records, and equipment for an evacuation; and
- Identify strategies for communicating with staff, residents, emergency officials and the media in an emergency.
